  • Your 4-hour scheduled time includes the hike into and out of the climbing area, so plan for a moderately active outing. We’ll tailor the experience to your goals and comfort level—whether that’s your very first climb or refining technique on the wall. Expect a mix of instruction, movement coaching, and plenty of time actually climbing.

  • We’ll meet at the picnic tables between the visitor center yurt and the playground at Smith Rock State Park. Your guide will be there to greet you, go over the plan for the day, and get everyone geared up before heading out.

  • Weekend Dirtbags provides all necessary climbing equipment, including:

    • Helmet

    • Harness & Chalk

    • Climbing Shoes

    • Ropes & Technical Gear

    • Backpack (if needed)

All equipment is professionally maintained and fitted to you at the start of your session.

    • Day-use parking pass ($10–$12, available on-site)

    • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing (layers recommended)

    • Sturdy shoes for hiking

    • Plenty of water (more than you think you’ll need, especially in summer)

    • Snacks or light food

    • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat

    • Any personal medications (inhalers, EpiPens, etc.)

  • Smith Rock sits in a high desert environment, which means big temperature swings. Mornings and evenings can be quite cold, while summer afternoons regularly exceed 100°F. Conditions can also be windy and exposed, so come prepared with layers and sun protection.

  • Participants should be comfortable hiking on uneven terrain and spending several hours outdoors. No prior climbing experience is required.

  • Your guide will provide thorough instruction on climbing movement, equipment use, and safety systems. We prioritize a low-pressure, supportive environment so you can learn at your own pace.

  • Restrooms and water are available near the parking area but not at the climbing sites.

Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early to allow time for parking and check-in.

Gratuity for your guide is appreciated but not required.

Whether it’s your first time on a rope or you’re looking to expand your skills outdoors, this experience is all about building confidence, learning solid fundamentals, and enjoying a day at one of the most beautiful climbing areas in the country.
